What's this?
We are a group of artists who got fed up with the so-called "music industry". In order to get our music heard, we decided to start our own label. We release all our music through this website, and you can help us distribute it over peer-to-peer networks such as Kazaa and Direct Connect.
Is the music really free?
Yes, all music released through immaterial music can be freely downloaded from this site as high quality mp3s.* We'd like to be able to offer lossless formats as well, but we can't really afford the bandwidth for it yet.
Our music is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike, which basically says that anyone is allowed to copy, distribute and even make commercial use of our music as long as we're properly credited for our work (see this page for details).
You may also distribute modifications of our released works as long as you release them under an identical license. If you want access to higher quality files or individual takes to make a remix, that can probably be arranged.
If you want to use our music but feel that our license is too restrictive (or incompatible with your own license), contact us and we can probably work something out.
* The mp3's are encoded at 192kbps, 44.1kHz using LAME.
